What does a wedding cake cost in Switzerland?
Starting prices on Hochzeitsuche range from CHF 10 to CHF 500; the low values are for cupcakes, macarons or small cakes. For the wedding cake itself, allow CHF 8 to 15 per slice in Switzerland. A three-tier cake for 80 guests therefore costs CHF 700 to 1 200; elaborate fondant decoration, sugar flowers and delivery with set-up come on top. Sweet tables with cupcakes and cake pops usually cost CHF 5 to 8 per guest.
Which cake suits you?
- Naked or semi-naked cake: visible sponge, little icing, fresh flowers. Suits gardens and barns.
- Buttercream: smooth or textured, easy to keep cool — the simplest choice for most venues.
- Fondant: a perfect finish and elaborate decoration, but sensitive to heat.
- Dessert buffet instead of a cake: for couples who would rather skip the cake cutting.
Tasting and delivery
Most patisseries offer a tasting of three to five flavours, often for CHF 30 to 60, which is credited when you order. Check with the venue whether there is a fridge and who sets up the cake. At summer weddings the cake should only come out of the fridge shortly before it is cut.
