The vendors on Hochzeitsuche charge from CHF 100 to CHF 690 per booking. The median of CHF 360 says more than the average: half of all offers are below it, while a few top prices pull the average up.

The range is mainly down to the vehicle. A classic convertible or a VW Beetle is considerably cheaper than a stretch limousine or a Bentley from the 1930s. The second factor is how long you need it: some vendors charge a flat rate for the day, others by the hour with a surcharge for waiting time.

Both are possible, and the difference is considerable. If the car comes with a driver, the price usually includes it; for self-drive there is a deposit and proof of driving experience, and for vintage cars often a minimum age. Ask early, because many owners of historic vehicles rule out self-drive altogether.

The vendors themselves state lead times of between one month and six months. One month is enough with vendors who have several vehicles; if you want a particular model, book earlier. Saturdays between May and September usually go first.

• Travel: many vendors charge per kilometre from their base. For a ceremony in a neighbouring canton this can noticeably change the price.
• Waiting time: between the ceremony and the apéro the car often stands still. Ask whether this time is charged.
• Decoration: not every owner allows flowers or ribbons on the paintwork.
• Guest transfers: some vendors also have minibuses — one call saves a second search.
