What does a celebrant cost in Switzerland?
Starting prices on Hochzeitsuche range from CHF 1 200 to CHF 2 500; the median is CHF 1 800. The price usually includes one or two introductory meetings, writing the ceremony, coordination with the musicians and the venue, the rehearsal and the ceremony itself. Travel, bilingual ceremonies and rituals such as a sand ceremony or ring warming sometimes cost extra.
Celebrant-led ceremonies: what you need to know
A celebrant-led ceremony is not legally binding in Switzerland. The civil wedding at the civil registry office remains compulsory and usually takes place first — on the same day or weeks before. In return, the celebrant-led ceremony is completely free in place, length, language and content: in a forest, on a lake, in the garden of your venue. It usually lasts 30 to 45 minutes. What to look out for
- Voice and style: listen to recordings. Humorous, solemn or both?
- Language: Swiss German, standard German, English, or bilingual for families from two countries.
- Personal, not a template: a good celebrant tells your story, not a standard speech with the names swapped.
- Sound equipment: who brings the microphone and speaker? Outdoors, you will need them from about 40 guests.
When to book?
Six to twelve months ahead. Well-known celebrants are booked up early for summer Saturdays.
