What does a wedding venue cost in Switzerland?
Most venues quote on request, because the price depends on the number of guests, the day of the week and the season. As a guide: hiring a hall for the whole day costs CHF 1 500 to 6 000 in Switzerland; castles and country estates usually start at CHF 4 000. Restaurants and country inns often charge no hire fee but a per-person package of CHF 80 to 150 for menu and drinks. Ask about minimum spend, closing time and whether decoration and overnight stays are included.
What to look out for
- Capacity: seats for dinner are not the same as standing room for the apéro. Allow 1.5 to 2 square metres per guest at the table.
- Ceremony on site: many venues are suitable for a celebrant-led ceremony; a civil ceremony needs a wedding room approved by the canton. Only the civil ceremony is legally binding in Switzerland — our guide explains how getting married in Switzerland works.
- Bad weather: is there a covered plan B for the apéro and the ceremony?
- Catering: in-house kitchen, partner caterer or free choice? That decides the menu and the price.
- Getting there and staying over: parking, public transport links and rooms for guests who would rather not drive home.
When to book?
Popular venues are booked 12 to 18 months ahead for Saturdays from May to September. A Friday, a Sunday or a date in spring or autumn often comes with better terms.
